What’s up? It’s day six of our journey with Jesus. Today I want to talk to you about experiencing resurrection.
The Bible says something interesting in Romans chapter 6. I’ll start at verse 4:
“For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with Him in His death, we will also be raised to life as He was.”
Think about what that says. It insinuates that we have died to sin — not because of our behavior, but because of baptism. Baptism is a supernatural experience. It’s almost like putting on a wedding ring: I’m married because I accepted Jesus, but baptism makes it public. I declare it. I show it, because I’m sealed. When people see that seal, they know: he belongs to someone. He’s spoken for. That’s what baptism does.
But baptism doesn’t just seal us — it empowers us. Scripture shows over and over that the Holy Spirit descended in baptism. It happened with Jesus, and it has happened for countless others since. There isn’t a clear timeline for whether you’re filled with the Spirit first and then baptized, or baptized first and then filled with the Spirit. But one thing is clear in Scripture: both are essential.
So on day six, here’s my challenge and encouragement to you: sign up to get baptized.
Now, I’ve often heard people say, “I just don’t know if I’m ready.” Here’s the truth: it doesn’t matter. You weren’t “ready enough” to be saved either — salvation was simply a decision to acknowledge that you can’t save yourself and that you need a Savior. It’s the same with baptism. Baptism isn’t about cleaning yourself up or getting rid of bad habits first. It’s about accepting the finished work of Jesus and allowing Him to wash you.
If you’re incapable of saving yourself, you’re also incapable of cleansing yourself or making yourself “good enough.” It’s all about surrender. It’s all about faith. If you have the faith to trust Jesus with your eternity, I believe you have the faith to publicly declare that Jesus is your Lord and Savior — to be washed, to die to who you were, and to be resurrected into who God has created and called you to be.
So here’s my encouragement for you today: don’t delay. If you want to invite friends and family to celebrate with you, do it. Your decision of faith shouldn’t be a secret — there’s nothing to be ashamed of. Romans 1:16 says, “I am not ashamed of the gospel. It is the power that changes me. It’s what transforms me.” Baptism is a public declaration that you belong to Jesus. If you’re ready to say, “I belong to Jesus,” then you’re ready. Sign up. Why would you wait? Why would you delay allowing the presence, grace, and power of God to enable you to be all He’s created you to be?
God, I ask that the person on this journey would have the courage to boldly profess that You are the Lord and Savior of their life, and the faith to surrender any need to cleanse or fix themselves — but instead allow You to do what You desire, what You sent Your Son to die for: that they would be washed and forgiven by grace, through the finished work of the cross. Thank You for the opportunity for resurrection to be a daily part of their life through the power of baptism. In Jesus’ name, amen.
