Welcome to Day Four of your journey with Jesus!
Today is special because we’ve already talked about embracing your new life, learning how to talk with God through prayer, and reading the Bible. Now, I want to share what makes all of those things possible—not just consistently, but in a way that truly transforms your life.
There are times when you read the Bible and think, “This seems impossible.” And in many ways, it is—unless you have God’s help.
Jesus explains this in John 14:26–27:
“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
So, what is this gift?
The better question is: Who is the gift?
The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity. God is one God who reveals Himself as the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. While this can be difficult to fully understand, here’s a simple illustration.
My name is Justin. I am one person, but I have different roles. I am a husband to Delicia, a father to Genevie, Juliana, and Justice, and a son to my mother, Wanda. Although I am the same person, each relationship involves a different role and responsibility.
In a much greater way, God reveals Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, to restore our relationship with Him. After Jesus died, rose again, and returned to heaven, He promised that we would not be left alone. He sent the Holy Spirit to live with us and within us.
The truth is, we cannot live the Christian life by our own strength. We cannot consistently follow Jesus through willpower alone.
The only way we can live out God’s truth is through the power of the Holy Spirit.
That’s the beautiful part.
Every day, you can invite the Holy Spirit to guide you. You can ask Him for wisdom before an important meeting, while raising your children, during a difficult conversation, or as you go through school or work.
Even when you can’t gather at church, you can still live as the Church because God’s presence is always with you.
So here’s my challenge for you today.
Maybe you’re already noticing old habits, old thoughts, or old temptations trying to return. Don’t face them alone.
Invite the Holy Spirit to help you.
If you’re wondering, “How do I actually live the Christian life?” remember this: Christianity isn’t merely a set of rules—it’s a relationship. And the Holy Spirit desires to walk with you every step of the way.
Let’s pray together.
“Holy Spirit, lead me today. Help me recognize Your voice and give me the courage to obey it. Empower me to walk in the calling and purpose You have for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
